TUTS Gathering 2009
"The Show Must Go On"
It had been over forty years since the first shows were produced for TUTS, and in 2009 we thought it was about time to recreate some of the magical moments of musical theater. On Friday night we met and became reacquainted, bringing our favorite scrapbooks, posters and memorabilia. However, it didn't take long before we were all around the piano with Irene Lopez (our favorite accompanist), who pulled out some of the most memorable music scores to shows such as Zorba, Jacque Brel, Man of La Mancha, West Side Story, the Fantasticks, and many more.
On Saturday morning we returned for a dance class with Dick Pond, who kindly took us through a few dance maneuvers as we danced down memory lane. We all made it through the class without a major injury, and a couple of members have since joined Dick's ongoing Saturday morning classes in Kansas City.
We spent Saturday afternoon singing together and realized that we had just begun a new journey of creating show tunes together. We vowed to gather together to produce a show for each other, just among friends and family, for 2010.
TUTS Gathering 2010
In October of 2010, we created a musical revue of favorite
show tunes called "Boomerang! Cause We're Baby
Boomers Comin' Back Around." Friday night was
spent rehearsing around the piano and Saturday morning
was a refresher dance class, held by Dick Pond.
After the dance class we all enjoyed a potluck lunch before the big show. Family and friends showed up to enjoy the entertainment and it has been widely reported that the audience was as delighted as the performers; everyone had a wonderful time and we're looking forward to gathering once again in the autumn of 2012. Would you like to be on our mailing list to be contacted for any upcoming gatherings? If so, send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A special thanks to the planning committee of the 2010 TUTS gathering: Lori and Steve Allee, Cathy and Michael Chapman, Diann and Rick Ranum, Ellen Stock, Pat Van Buskirk and Lisa Stock Volk.
